Claws & Paws Flea, Tick & Mosquito Spray: How I Use It in Real Life

Fleas and ticks don’t always come from your dog. Many times, we bring them into the house on our shoes, clothing, or bags. That’s why prevention isn’t just about putting something on your pet; it’s about creating a protected environment around them.

One of my favorite natural prevention tools is the Claws & Paws Flea, Tick & Mosquito Spray.

You can purchase it directly from my shop here:

And for families adopting directly from us, this spray is already included in our Puppy Care Kits you receive on adoption day, so you’ll have it from the very first night home. 💛

The bottle directions say the spray can be applied directly to your puppy’s fur, which is completely okay to do.

However, this is how I personally use it for comfort, ease, and effective long-term prevention

🏡 At Home Use: Bedding + Entryway Routine

Instead of spraying directly onto their coat daily, I spray the areas where the puppy naturally spends the most time resting:

  •   Their bedding
  •   Crate pads
  •   Favorite blanket
  •   The doormat at the entrance to our home (super important!)

Why the doormat?

Because we humans are actually the main carriers of fleas into the house, not our pets. Spraying the doormat helps stop fleas before they ever reach your dog.

My Simple Routine:

Monday • Wednesday • Friday

  •   Light mist on bedding & blankets
  •   Light mist on the doormat
  •   Allow bedding to dry before your puppy lies back down (doesn’t take long)

As the puppy sleeps and relaxes, the protective botanicals transfer gently to their belly and paws — without making their coat feel wet, sticky, or “over-sprayed.”

🥾 On-the-Go Use: In the Car, On Walks & Hiking Trails

I also keep a bottle in the car for outdoor adventures.

Before we head out into grassy, wooded, or natural areas:

  •   Light mist along the top line (down the back)
  •   Light mist under the belly and chest (where they brush through grass)
  •   Avoid face/ears and sensitive spots — just like the label recommends

This gives active protection when they’re in environments where pests are more common.

✅ Why This Method Works Well

  •   Keeps the puppy’s coat clean and comfortable
  •   Protects the environment they live in — not just their fur
  •   Easy to maintain with a 3-day-a-week routine
  •   Still provides targeted protection outdoors when needed
  •   And it’s already included in our Puppy Kits for adopters — so you’re ready from day one
